Virtual Programs from West Side Family Place

Dear Family Place Community,

All of us here at WSFP are sending lots of love to you and your families and hope that you are keeping well during this challenging time. We want you to know that we are thinking of you and miss you and your children very much. But even though we aren’t able to welcome you to Family Place right now, our staff are still here and would love to hear from you.

Here are some of the things we are working on to maintain our connection until we can meet you again in person:

Maria, Sue Ellen and Eva invite you to a virtual “Singing Time” every Tuesday and Thursday, at 11:30 am. If you and your children would like to see a friendly familiar face and sing some songs, please join us on Facebook.  Also, if there are songs, rhymes or felt stories you miss from our Circle time, let us know and we will add it on our list for future clips. We will also be doing a Live Zoom Circle Time every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month – we will update the details on our Facebook and Instagram page, please stay tuned for that.

We know that this is an incredibly stressful time for parents and having someone to talk to can make a big difference.  We’ve launched “Chat with Eva” where Eva will be available to speak to parents and caregivers on Mondays to Thursdays between 10 am and 2 pm and Tuesday evenings between 7 pm and 9pm.  You can reach her on our dedicated “Eva Hotline” at 236.808.7334. If you have other thoughts and questions for the rest of the staff, Diane, Maria, Sue Ellen and Salena, please connect with us through our email, wsfp_info@telus.net.

Dr. Deborah MacNamara and Eva will be hosting a webinar called “Staying Sane at Home with Kids”. From our child’s tantrums, resistance, playtime, to their questions of “what are we going to do today,” staying at home with kids has never been so ‘interesting.’ Come join Dr. Deborah MacNamara as we discuss the new realities of caring for our kids and how to help them with their emotions, while trying to preserve ours at the same time. The webinar event is on Wednesday, April 22, 7:00 pm to 8:15 pm.  It will be free, but pre-registration is required on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/staying-sane-at-home-with-kids-with-dr-deborah-macnamara-tickets-102936369452

We will also be hosting regular “Coffee Break” drop-ins through Zoom on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 am to 11:15 am. Although not quite the same as a typical drop-in, we hope it will be an opportunity to share experiences and enjoy the company of other grown-ups. Space is limited, so please contact wsfp_info@telus.net to register.

We have introduced “Window Wanderings” which encourages spreading of love and cheer for families during their neighbourhood strolls.  Please check our Facebook and Instagram regularly for updates or simply stroll over to Family Place and check out our window display.

We will also be doing “Arts and Crafts Packages” a few weeks a month where we’ll be providing art supplies for a DIY art activity at home.  Family Place will set up a table outside our gate and families will be able to take a package (1 per child). First set of art packages will be available on Wednesday, April 22, 10 am to 2 pm.  We will announce every release of craft packages on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Check out our social media feed regularly for ideas on crafts, activities, recipes, and parenting and self-care articles that you can explore with your child.
